OPADE project researchers publish a scientific article

May 16, 2024.

We are pleased to announce that researchers from the OPADE project have published a highly relevant scientific article in the Journal of Psychopathology.

The article, entitled ‘Exploring treatment strategies for mood stabilization in patients with major depressive disorder and mixed features’, deals with the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) with mixed features. Challenges to traditional DSM classifications are discussed and a treatment approach is proposed. The authors recommend starting treatment with an antimanic agent, such as a mood stabiliser or an antipsychotic. They also consider adding a low-dose serotonergic antidepressant if there are symptoms of depression or anxiety. Once the acute episode has subsided, the authors recommend discontinuing the antimanic agent and assessing the need for further treatment. They emphasise the need for further research on maintenance treatment with mood stabilisers.
