We are pleased to announce the publication of an important scientific article entitled ‘Precision medicine for depression: Improving treatment response and remission,’ co-authored by several of our distinguished OPADE researchers, including Giulio Corrivetti, Alessandra Marenna, Corrado Vecchi, Riccardo Panella, and Alessio Fasano of Fondazione EBRIS, among other key collaborators. This article has been published in the Asian Journal of Psychiatry.

The article synthesises current knowledge to improve understanding of the pathophysiology of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and optimise diagnostic, therapeutic and prognostic approaches. It explores the intricate interaction between genetic, epigenetic, inflammatory, neurotransmitter and gut microbiome factors, along with environmental stressors and diverse clinical presentations of symptoms, influencing the manifestation and response to treatment of MDD.

Among its findings, the study reveals potential biomarkers predictive of treatment response, allowing for the differentiation of MDD subtypes and facilitating remission monitoring. It addresses the significant challenges that still remain in achieving fully optimised therapeutic efficacy and widespread remission. In addition, it proposes a holistic, data-driven approach as the key to addressing the complex aetiology of MDD, ultimately improving outcomes for patients and reducing the substantial burden of this prevalent disorder. The multi-omic approach encompasses the integrated analysis of data from various biological layers, such as genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics.

We invite all interested parties to explore this valuable article here to deepen their understanding of precision medicine for depression. For more information and to stay up to date with the latest news from the OPADE project, follow us on social media and visit our website.
