World Day Against Depression 2025

Jan 13, 2025.

Today, January 13, we commemorate World Day Against Depression, a significant date aimed at raising awareness of this prevalent mental illness. Depression affects over 280 million people globally. Approximately 3.8% of the population experiences depression, including 5% of adults (4% of men and 6% of women) and 5.7% of adults over the age of 60. Depression is about 50% more common among women and is the leading cause of global disability, impacting sufferers and their families profoundly.

Despite effective treatments for mental disorders, more than 75% of those affected in low- and middle-income countries do not receive any treatment. Furthermore, the efficacy of antidepressants prescribed to patients with major depressive disorder is around 40%, meaning that 60% of treated patients do not benefit from the treatment.

Half of major depressive disorders begin in adolescence, yet children are often considered ‘little adults’ in antidepressant development, though their bodies are different.

At OPADE, we are dedicated to optimizing and predicting the efficacy of antidepressants for patients with major depressive disorders. We use multi-omics analysis and AI-based predictive tools to provide personalized and sustainable solutions, improving the quality of life for those suffering from depression.

On this World Day Against Depression, we reaffirm our commitment to mental health and innovation, working towards a healthier, more resilient future
